Sakshi Malik Quits Wrestling, She Quits and You win: TMC Slams BJP

The Bengal Express:
Pro wrestler Sakshi Malik broke down on live television on Thursday, announcing her retirement from the sport, only hours after the controversial former Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's aide was voted to the organization's top position.

Many individuals from all around the nation came to support us throughout our 40 days of sleeping on the roadways. I will give up wrestling if Brij Bhushan Singh's business partner and a close aide wins the WFI presidency. At a crowded news conference in New Delhi, Malik—the first Indian woman wrestler to win an Olympic medal—spoke with tears in her eyes.

Her companions were other wrestlers who earlier this year started a protest movement against Brij Bhushan. The startling statement followed the election of Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Association vice-president Sanjay Singh to the presidency in a WFI, which was required in light of charges of sexual harassment against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Brij Bhushan. With the support of wrestlers, Singh defeated gold winner Anita Sheoran from the Commonwealth Games.

Protesting wrestlers, according to Malik, have called for a woman to be elected WFI president. Harassment would not occur if the president were a woman. However, women did not participate before, and as you can see from the list today, not a single woman was awarded a place. We had battled with all of our might, but the struggle will go on. The new generation of wrestlers must engage in combat.

"I have nothing to do with this," stated former WFI chairman Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in response to Malik's remark. After BJP MP and WFI chairman Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was accused of sexual harassment, the election for the organization's top seat attracted national interest. In addition to selecting the organization's next president, the polls will fill positions for four vice presidents, a secretary general, a treasurer, two joint secretaries, five executive members, and a senior vice president.
