Breaking: Charanjit Singh Channi is the new CM of Punjab

News Express: Charanjit Singh Channi is the new CM of Punjab. Congress leader Charanjit Channi was elected leader of the Punjab CLP on Sunday - ending hours of speculation over who would take over the reins of Amarinder Singh.

“I am very pleased to announce that Shs. Charanjit Singh Channi has been elected unanimously because he is the Leader of the Punjab Congress Legislature Party, ”said Harun Rawat, Congress of Punjab.

Governor Banwarilal Purohit called on senior Congress leaders, including Channi and Rawat, to ratify him by 6.30pm, said Congress leader Ajay Maken.

This comes after rumors that Sukhjinder Randhawa was elected leader of the Congress Legislature Party. Amarinder Singh filed a letter of resignation on Saturday, sparking an uproar. Capt Amarinder said he had given up on embarrassment and kept his options open.

He has also vowed to assure his main political rival Navjot Singh Sidhu that he will never get a position. Amarinder Singh's decision forced Congress to resign immediately to hunt down his successor.

The decision came after hours of scrutiny of a very important coalition representing communities, castes and regions. Congress President Sonia Gandhi is believed to have discussed the issue with Ambika Soni, among other party veterans. Soni, a Member of Parliament for Rajya Sabha of Punjab, was offered the position but declined and said he should visit the Sikh leader.

Other candidates for the post are Partap Bajwa, Ravneet Bittu, and Sunil Jakhar.
